ABOUT US

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., was founded on the campus of Howard University on November 17, 1911. The fraternity’s founders–three undergraduate students and their faculty advisor, derived the fraternity’s name from the initials of the greek phase meaning “friendship is essential to the soul.” That phrase was designated at the fraternity’s motto. As the same time, the founders adopted three cardinal principles that all fraternity members are expected to live by–Manhood, Scholarship Perseverance and Uplift.

NU RHO CHAPTER


The Nu Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was chartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico on April 1, 1964. Over the years, the members of Nu Rho Chapter has consistently engaged in projects to uplift communities across the state of New Mexico.


NU RHO FOUNDATION

The Nu Rho Chapter is the charitable arm of the Nu Rho Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi, Fraternity, Inc. The Nu Rho Foundation accepts donations from individuals and organizations that wish to support its charitable mission. The foundation, in turn, dispenses funds, as well as its members’ time and talents, to improve the lives of New Mexico residents. Some of programs the foundation supports are listed below.


PROGRAMS

Scholarship

A general scholarship program that offers thousands of dollars in scholarships each year to local students transitioning from high school to college.

Mentorship

Mentoring programs that help young people from middle school through college develop tools to succeed in school and the workplace.

Community

Offering volunteer labor and financial support to Habitat for Humanity and Roadrunner Food Bank and conducting annual Red Cross Blood Drive.

Annual Fundraisers

The Tommie Jewell, Sr. Golf Classic is the foundation’s chief annual Annual fundraising activity. The foundation also solicits grants and donations from organizations to support its activities. In recent years, the Nu Rho Foundations has gratefully accepted grants from the New Mexico Black Leadership Council, Wells Fargo Bank an Nusenda Credit Union among others.

Talent Hunt

Our talent Hunt competition awards scholarships to high school students who demonstrate exceptional talent in performing and/or visual arts.

Annual Essay Contest

Annual high school essay contest that awards scholarships to a deserving high schoolers who also qualifies for District and International competitions.
