Established by the New Mexico Legislature in 1991, the New Mexico Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission is a state agency charged with developing, promoting, coordinating, and reviewing the statewide plans and activities commemorating the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Its mission centers on advancing Dr. King’s philosophy—principles of human rights, equality, nonviolence, social change, unity, and interconnectedness—through remembrance, celebration, and action across the state. The Commission operates by creating educational materials, coordinating events, advising the governor and legislature on commemorative programming, collaborating with community organizations, accepting bequests to support its work, and aligning state and federal observances

Black Chamber of Commerce

Their purpose is to promote sustainable economic growth and empowerment within the black-owned business community. They are committed to achieving this by focusing on four key pillars: education, advocacy, mentorship, and networking. Through education, they strive to equip black-owned businesses with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to thrive in a competitive marketplace. By providing access to educational programs, workshops, and seminars, we aim to empower entrepreneurs with valuable insights, industry trends, and best practices.

NAACP Albuquerque Branch

Their mission is to achieve equity, political rights, and social inclusion by advancing policies and practices that expand human and civil rights, eliminate discrimination, and accelerate the well-being, education, and economic security of Black people and all persons of color. Each and every NAACP member makes a difference to the complex, ongoing work of advancing racial equity.

Community Mentoring Program

The Community Mentor helps young people reach the limits of their individual potential. We do this by having mentors work with them one-on-one to help them set goals and develop the tools they will need to achieve those goals. This includes help with basic life skills such as organization and time management. It also can include assistance with academic and career planning and financial management advice. Every CNM mentee can count on being paired with a mentor who will do their very best to address that young person’s particular needs.

New Mexico Office of African American Affairs

The New Mexico Office of African American Affairs (OAAA) was enacted by the 44th New Mexico State Legislature in 1999 under House Bill 909 and an executive advisory committee was established by Executive Order under the administration of Governor Gary Johnson. Although the official operation of OAAA started with State Legislation, the hearts of OAAA lies with the many New Mexico residents statewide who felt that there was a need to address issues specific to the African American community.
